She claims to be unable to afford a drink, so Donny shows kindness by giving her a tea on the house. This seemingly innocent gesture sets off a chain of events that lead to years of emotional, psychological, and physical torment.
Donny’s personal life is complicated by his ongoing struggle with the stalker. He lives with his ex-girlfriend’s mother, and his comedy career is not progressing as he hoped. He is also dating a transgender woman, and his own uncertainty about his sexuality adds to the complexity of his life. Donny’s past trauma impacts his relationships and plays a significant role in his entanglement with Martha.
At first glance, Baby Reindeer may seem to offer a straightforward narrative of a man being stalked by a woman.
