New episodes of Grey’s Anatomy air Thursdays at 10pm on ABC.
I remember watching Grey’s Anatomy when I was still in college. I was binge-watching it so hard that I literally stayed up all night just to watch it. Season over season, I’ve seen Meredith, Christina, and everyone at Grey Sloan Memorial grow, break, and rebuild themselves over and over again. I guess it felt so close to me because I have loved ones who also work at hospitals. But after so many seasons, you start to wonder if it’s still worth watching from start to finish.
As of writing, Grey’s Anatomy is in its 22nd season. Just think about how many episodes you will need to watch if you haven’t watched a single episode of it. If you’re just using your mobile data to watch and you don’t have an unlimited bandwidth, you might need to talk to your cell phone service provider. Just trust me on this.
Well anyway, if you’re one of the many people who are wondering if you should watch all seasons of Grey’s Anatomy, I’ve got a few key points to share.
1) The first few seasons were the best parts of the entire series.
The first seasons were the reason why most viewers were able to stick until the latest season. You could literally feel the chemistry between the cast, especially between Meredith and Derek, and the raw and real friendship between Meredith and Christina.
The medical cases were really exciting too. I literally felt like I wanted to become a doctor after watching some of the episodes. But what I really loved about this series is that every patient had a story, and every doctor had something personal because it was always about finding love, purpose, meaning, and hope in a place where loss happens every single day.
2) The show will make you feel everything.
This is one of the few shows that can make you laugh one minute and cry the next. It’s not scared to talk about extremely sensitive topics, including death, loss, heartbreak, and everything in between. There are episodes that will stay with you for years because of how real they feel.
I personally still remember the time when… well, that’s for you to find out because I’m pretty sure it will break you too. I won’t spoil it for you, so you can enjoy it. Also, make sure your internet provider is on its A-game when you start streaming so you can really understand the stories behind the patients and employees.
3) Be ready for character changes.
One thing you need to know is that the cast changes a lot. People leave, and new ones come in. Some exits hurt more than others, especially when it’s a character you’ve grown to love. There are also new faces who bring different energy and perspectives. It’s not easy. I personally stopped streaming for a year after one of my favorite characters left.
That’s also what makes this TV series super real. People come and go in life, and Grey’s Anatomy is not afraid to show that. The new characters take time to grow on you, but eventually, they do. But of course, nothing beats the OG characters we’ve grown to love in the first several seasons.
4) The pacing slows down later on.
Ever experienced that sudden connection slowdown from your wireless service provider when you’re used to fast internet? That’s kind of how Grey’s Anatomy feels in the later seasons. After getting used to those exciting and intense cases, it slowly moved to a gentler pace. You’ll notice longer conversations and more focus on character reflection rather than the rush of the hospital floor.
It’s not necessarily a bad thing. The show has grown with time, and so have its characters. Still, if you’re someone who fell in love with the chaos of the earlier seasons, this slower rhythm might take some getting used to.
So, Should You Watch All Seasons of Grey’s Anatomy?
Honestly, it’s not a simple yes or no question. For me personally, I think it’s worth watching, especially if you’ve committed to the entire series. Some seasons were not that good, but if you actually think about the entirety of the series, every episode is worth watching. It’s just that not everyone can actually finish the series because it’s a big commitment, and there will be massive changes that many people wouldn’t like or couldn’t just accept. It will still boil down to you if you can actually go through the entire series without quitting.
