The Jim Jefferies Show – Opinion

The Jim Jefferies Show airs Tuesdays, 10:30pm on Comedy Central.

Australian Jim Jefferies is latest comedian to venture into the political late night field. Every Tuesday night on Comedy Central, he sits behind a desk and jokes about the previous week’s happenings, mostly Trump related.

The Jim Jefferies Show is akin to a less intelligent episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver; The jokes are funny, but you’ve heard them before. In the age of Oliver, Stephen Colbert, and Samantha Bee’s pointed political commentary, what can Jefferies possibly add?

The highlight of the show so far has been Brad Pitt’s two cameos as a cynical weatherman. I’m surprised Comedy Central was able to book such a big name for an unestablished host!

Jefferies also sprinkles in prerecorded field pieces, which are always a good time. The best involved a trip to First Lady Melania Trump’s hometown in Slovenia. It was fascinating to see how the country has attempted to boost tourism through their White House ties.

Unless The Jim Jefferies Show improves, you’re better off tuning into the same channel just 30 minutes later and watching the Daily Show. Trevor Noah is a fine example of someone who has taken the classic political comedy formula and done great things. This foreigner still has a way to go.
