The fourth season of Schitt’s Creek premieres January 24th, 8pm on Pop.

When I learned of a dry humor-laced series about a once-rich-now-struggling family, it didn’t take much past the fact that it starred Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara to convince me to watch it. Being a fan of Christopher Guest, I’d often seen Levy and O’Hara playing off of each other on screen and their talent has a way of keeping your eyes glued to their antics. Whether it be a story of canine parents en route to a dog show or a mighty good former musical group, the duo works to make each character they play memorable.
Such is the case with Schitt’s Creek, where Levy and O’Hara reunite sans Guest to play John and Moira Rose, a couple who has been stripped of all of their money and possessions and is forced to live in the town of Schitt’s Creek, which they own. They move into a run-down motel with an adjoining room for their grown children, David (Daniel Levy) and Alexis (Annie Murphy). From here begins a series of events that force the Roses to be… normal people.
This does not sit well with the family, who is used to a life of wealth and luxury. While you would assume that their constant complaining and spoiled behavior would be annoying, the way that the characters are played is hilarious and brilliant, to the point that you enjoy hearing them complain because the dialogue is so well-written.
The Roses are just the beginning of the goofy yet lovable characters that reside within Schitt’s Creek, including: the clueless mayor (played by Chris Elliott), the sarcastic motel receptionist (played by Emily Hampshire), and the overly sweet diner waitress (played by Sarah Levy).
It’s impossible for me to do justice to what the show has accomplished comedically, so take my word for it when I say, if you’re not watching Schitt’s Creek, you need to be because it’ll make your day.
