Billed as an “immersive wonderland of lights,” LuminoCity has landed in NYC for the winter. Taking over 16 acres on Randalls Island, the festival is mainly comprised of light and art installations, but also features a small holiday shopping area with
food and drink vendors, comparable to Bryant Park’s Winter Village.
Honestly, I found LuminoCity underwhelming. Perhaps it was because I had visited Hello Panda – a much superior lantern festival – just two nights before. Either way, LuminoCity just was not that special. Kids will love the themed sections of Winter Fantasy, Wild Adventure, and Sweet Dream, but adults will not be wowed.
Additionally, the ground that houses the festival is quite muddy. My experience was not a pleasant one. I would pass on this adventure because your time would be better spent at one of New York’s true holiday season staples. Go see the Rockettes or something!
