The annual BookCon took place this past weekend in New York City’s very own Javits Center. TV and City hit the show floor on Sunday, June 4, to explore the booths and learn about upcoming releases. Here are three highlights:
1) Fandoms United
Besides for the hordes of teen fans crowding the young adult booths, BookCon features several “meetups” for niche enthusiasts. Witnessing these gatherings was intriguing and special, like a Tumblr post in real life. Friendships were formed that may last a lifetime!
2) Celebrity Authors
For those not caught up in fictional worlds and don’t have a favorite author, there were plenty of Hollywood stars and household names on the guest list this year. Krysten Ritter, Chelsea Clinton, Bill Nye, Mayim Bialik, Kevin Hart, and more stopped by the convention center for signings and photo-ops.
3) Swag!
Attendees who chose to forgo the fantastic lineup of panel programming no doubt spent their time on the show floor, picking up several tote bags worth of free books. Plenty of publishers had promotional items available to badge holders, and we went home with enough reading material to last until next BookCon!
