Hello Panda Festival

By Elazar Abrahams

Over in Queens, the usually dormant Citi Field parking lot is lighting up NYC until January 26. During these cold winter months, the famous home of the New York Mets has become host to the Hello Panda Festival, America’s largest collection of lantern displays. It is quite an extravaganza!

I’m told the displays utilize more than ten million individual lights. When I arrived at the press preview night, I was actually blown away at the sheer size of the space. The exhibits seem to keep going and going. Most visitors will no doubt be drawn to Hello Panda Festival for the pretty ‘gram potential, but photos cannot capture the beauty on display. The festival is awesome in every sense of the word.

The bright creations come in a myriad of shapes and sizes – including a Christmas tree that’s 60 feet tall, a 98-foot long panda psychedelic light tunnel, life-sized dinosaurs, giant pandas and dream-like scenes of underwater life. This is an event for all ages.

If you are busy this year, have no fear. Hello Panda’s organizers, CPAA North America, have signed a multi-year contract with Citi Field to host the festival through 2024 and hope to establish the event as an annual New York holiday tradition.
