Pixar Putt

Pixar Putt is open at Battery Park until October 31.

Battery Park is already one of my favorite areas of Manhattan – stationed at the very bottom of the island, this lovely space holds amazing greenery and views – and now a new attraction ups the “must-visit” factor even higher.

wp-1631069789857.jpgPixar Putt is a limited-time mini-golf pop-up themed after your favorite animation studio’s movies. The fenced-off space features 18 holes, each incorporating obstacles from a Pixar film such as Toy Story, Coco, WALL-E, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and more. Each round is pretty cleverly constructed, utilizing iconic set pieces from each of the movies, such as the claw from Toy Story and giant kitchen utensils from Ratatouille. The last hole is themed after UP, and has an employee fly the famous balloon-held house over to another patch of play area once your golf balls are inside it.

Quality wise, Pixar Putt could definitely be better. Many of the holes are on uneven plateaus, and if you take mini golf seriously, you might get frustrated on how the cracks between panels and slants are affecting your game. Then again, I’d hope people aren’t taking mini golf too seriously. When you enter, you’re given a themed score card to keep track of how your group is individually performing. While friendly competition is encouraged, I think Pixar Putt is best when your party is chilled out. Bring the kids! Or a date! And just enjoy the charming set up right next to the water. Although maybe I’m just saying that because I came in dead last in my group of four… mini golf is clearly not my strong suit.

Tickets are a bit pricey, coming in at just under $40 per person. With four golfers, it took our group a little over an hour to complete all 18 holes. It’s up to you to decide if that price is worth admission. I’d definitely recommend it as a nice family outing, as well as to Disney-obsessed adults.
